Porcelain Accessories For The Home

By now you know that I am a "porcelain person". Given a choice of silver, crystal or porcelain for almost any purpose, I invariably choose porcelain. Porcelain as a medium is more decorative, more useful, has more life to it and generally makes a room come alive. Chosen carefully it can be used not only for display but as "working" pieces that can fulfill more than just the task for which they were purchased, witness the vibrancy of a dining room when the table is dressed for dinner as opposed to the bland look the room has when the table is bare. Porcelain brings fine art into your daily life and it will do this for a lifetime if a little care is taken handling it. It warms a room, sets a tone, gives it a persona and adds spirit. And it does one other thing; it marks you as a person of culture. Not a bad bargain achieving all of that just by buying a few pieces of porcelain.

The pattern shown is "Spring" a variation on English Chintz patterns. All of the lidded pieces are hinged just as Limoges boxes are hinged and all have elaborate metal work, beaded, twisted or chased and, of course, they are all hand painted and signed and carry the maker's backstamp These are all usable pieces, not meant to be purely decorative.
