Les Chats Unique!

The cats featured in this collection are quite different than our others. These are not "Breed" important. They are very unique boxes that employ cats in some role. The group of three boxes that are not figural are done in the manner of Renoir, in fact, two are details taken from his painting "La Loge" but parodies of it. All are highly detailed boxes with extraordinary art work.

A. A Night at The Opera Box. Madam Pussé in her stripped gown with ruffled sleeves, roses on her bodice and in her hair. Notice the the opera glasses and program in her paws. Inside, a rose and a fleur de lis for the clasp. Retail: Upwards of $187.00. Our price: $158.90.

B. The Owl and The Pussycat Box. Remember "The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea in a beautiful pea green boat." Well, here they are still sailing along and included in the box-- the provisions they took with them. How about 5 pounds of tuna? That's what's in the box! Any mouse that shows up will be in trouble because they both eat mice and so far I haven't been able to find any provisions for Mr. Owl. I guess, maybe he is just a fly by night sort of guy who doesn't do much in the way of providing for himself. I know-- he's a "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of bird. Anyway, they are cute and charming and lots of fun. The water is quite rough and it is done in bas relief so you can feel it when you handle the box. As I said, inside the box is a large size tin of tuna and the clasp is a French bow. Our price: $209.90. NEW for us but not for Chamart. They have been making this piece for years. It really is adorable.

C. Monsieur D'Artagnan, The Performing Arts Cat Box. This is the book by Dumas with El Catto in the role. His costume is a thing of beauty! The pleated ruff collar, the golden embroidery and the ruffled lace cuffs all done in exacting detail. A dashing Mouse Catcher, I must say. Inside a feather, I wonder why? And a feather for the clasp. The bookbinding is "leather" hand tooled (painted) in gold. I thought about putting this book in La Bibliotheque but he asked if he could be seated with his friends. D. The Oops! Dinner is Being Served Box. I jumped up on this comfortable rocking chair to relax for a bit but -- here is dinner now!
Chauncey was about to establish herself on my yellow rocker when this very foolish bird appeared on the arm of it. You can decide the result of it for yourself! The rocker is wicker with yellow cushions, the cat is a Tuxedo Cat --black and white --and the bird is some kind of a nut! This is one of the cutest cat boxes we have had in some time. E. The Cat in The Windowbox Box. I was trying to decide what plant to put into the windowbox next to that lovely yellow Lantana when I turned around and there was Gracie sitting in the box preening herself and looking about her as if to say, “Look at me! Don’t I look wonderful here next to the Lantana?” I had to agree. So here they are, together forever. Gracie is just as lovely as the Lantana. Inside the box some painted leaves and the clasp is a flower. Retail: About $243.00. Our price: $218.90.

F. The Puss at the Piano Box. What a charming piece! Pussrowski at the keyboard composing "The Yowl Sonata" for tonight. There are no words to describe this charmer. Simply, the best! The detail of the painting is so perfect up to and including the rose that someone in the audience presented to the pianist. Inside, notes for the music and the clasp a lyre.If you collect cats, as I do, this one is a definite buy. Our price: $234.90. Insider's Special: $214.90.

F2. The Cats Are The Cwaziest People Box. This Smarty Pants is up to no good. He has spied a mouse in the speaker horn of this old fashioned phonograph and he is about to start the music. The expression on his face is hilarious. He knows he's going to frighten that little mouse out of his wits and when he starts to run Smarty Pants is gonna get'im! This is such a darling and amusing piece, I have to chuckle each time I look at it. One has already found a home in my own personal collection. I just love it and it looks wonderful with The Puss at The Piano Box. Inside, a scattering of music notes, the clasp, a lyre. The artist who designed this box certainly knows cats! Some cats have great senses of humor. Chauncey, my kitty, does something funny and then turns around to see if I am laughing. She is the character to end all. This box is quite small. It is 1 1/2 in diameter by 1 3/4 tall. Our price: $214.90. NEW and I predict it will be a Howling Success!

G. Emmy in The Sewing Basket Box. Isn’t this the cutest thing you have ever seen? My friend Rosemary does a lot of sewing and her kitty, Emmy, gets Rosie’s attention by climbing into the basket and sitting there until Rosie reaches for something in it and spies her there. She knows she is not allowed in that basket but the ribbon rolls, the lace, the shiny thimble and the gold scissor are all of great interest to this nosy little cat. The basket is wicker and the ribbons and lace are all real as are the scissor and thimble. A marvelous box! Retail: About $293.00. Our price: $263.90.
