Le Petit Limoges
Egg Collection
We
are delighted to be able to bring to you Fabergé Eggs made
by The House of Fabergé. The Eggs that we show will include
both replicas of the original Eggs and Eggs of today but all will
be made by Fabergé. The replicas will be as exact as possible
with the substantive changes being the use of 24 karat gold plate
over sterling silver instead of gold and Austrian crystals which
will replace the precious gems. The crystals will be hand-set in
like settings to those used for the gems to ensure the exactness
of the reproduction.

Imperial Porcelain Box Collection
This
group of boxes is made for Fabergé in Limoges by a maker
whose name you probably would not know but who has been making
Limoges boxes for many years. Many of Rochard's boxes, as well
as many other importers, have their boxes made by this maker. La
Seynie is their name. You may recognize their mark which is an
L/S with the letters intertwined.

Egg Collections
Renaissance
Crystal Egg Collection:
An outstanding collection of mouth blown crystal eggs made in
France of French crystal and then hand cut and copper wheel engraved
in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The design of each egg is intriguingly
complex and done in such a way as to offer different views of the
subject matter of each egg. Add to this the many different cuts with
which the egg is embellished and you have a very complex piece of
art.

Fabergé Hardstone
Collection
Among
the many materials which Fabergé employed in the making of his
remarkable bibelots, not the least were the hardstones: malachite,
obsidian, chalcedony, rock crystal, nephrite, purpurine, jasper, agate,
jade, lapis-lazuli, bowenite, rhodonite, citrine, the list is endless.
His selection of hardstone was determined entirely by the most appropriate
use for the subject matter and this provided the figures great individuality
and stature. Also, he combined these hardstones with precious metals
and gems, seamlessly integrating each with the other creating miniature
works of art with each figure or flower made. His animals had what
art historians describe as "psychologically interpretive aspects",
the accentuation of particular characteristics of each subject giving
them personalities and very distinctive charm. They were much sought
after and, today, like all Fabergé treasures, they reside in
museum collections; The Forbes Collection, The Royal Collection in
London, The Collection of the Prince of Wales and several museums in
Moscow each having substantial hardstone collections.
