It
has been a while since we had any really great additions to our "breed"
cats but suddenly three new ones have appeared and they are wonderful.
The fourth box is not strictly a cat box but it looked well with this
group
and it does have a cat on it.
O.
Jonesy, The Maine Coon Cat Box. This is the first of this breed
we have ever seen in Limoges. And it is a beauty! The Main Coon is
a large cat with a very full, long haired coat and a long tail with
flowing fur. It is a very expressive tail and they use it freely to
communicate their feelings. They range in size to 22 pounds, quite large
for a cat. My cat, for instance, is only 8 pounds which is a bit on
the small side, but just imagine a cat nearly three times that size.
I believe that they are the largest domesticated breed of cat we have.
They are extremely intelligent and quite social. They have a most unusual
way of greeting their owners or those with whom they are very familiar,
a chirping, happy kind of trill, a sound that no other breed has in
their vocabulary. The breed comes in a variety of colors and markings
and in self colors as well. They hail from the State of Maine but it
isn't known where they came from originally. It is thought likely
that the first ones arrived here with early settlers in the late 1700's.
Retail:About $169.90. Our price: 152.90. NEW
Of Interest: The first cat show of any note in the United States was
held at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1895. The Champion was
a Maine Coon.
P. The Cat and Mouse Game Box. This is Gracie, a kitty that belongs to a dear friend, who is just discovering a mouse for the very first time. She obviously doesn’t know that a mouse is her natural prey. Actually, I have discovered that cats chase mice because the mice run. I watched my Chauncey with squirrels for years and she would have given anything to be able to chase them. She didn’t hate them --she watched them for hours and had lots of fun doing it. It was that they were little and moved rapidly and they were like mechanical toys for her. And that’s how a cat sees a mouse as well. Inside, a butterfly, painted in gold. The clasp is unimportant to the box. Our price: $184.90.
Q. The Garden Swing Box and/or Ponce de Leon and the Baltimore Oriole Box. Off in a far corner of the yard we recently had to remove a couple of trees. Rather than just removing them the gardener cut them down leaving just enough trunk from each to provide a spot for a swing to go in. It's an idyllic spot to just sit and relax and enjoy looking at the fruits of our labors. The neighbor’s cat, Ponce de Léon loves it as well. At this moment in time a Baltimore Oriole is enjoying the swing -- but not for much longer if Ponce pounces. The swing actually moves. Inside a group of colorful wildflowers and the clasp is a bird in flight. Retail: About $271.00. Our price: $243.90.

R. Elayne's
Cat Box. And
hereby hangs a tail..Many years ago I was in a very fine decorating
shop and found a piece of Meissen Biscuit
porcelain, the most famous of German porcelains and the equal of Limoges,
that was a wicker chair with a young girl kneeling on it. She had a
cat on her shoulder and there was another at the base of the chair
and she was dangling a piece of yarn and playing with them. I fell
in love with it on the spot -- after all, two of my very favorite things,
cats and biscuit porcelain, and of course, I purchased it. I have had
it ever since and it is one of my very favorite pieces. A year ago
I sent digital photographs of it to Mrs. Davidson, the owner of Chamart,
and asked if they could do a version of this for a box? There was a
resounding YES! and this is it. They have added color to it because
it really is so tiny that it would be overlooked in white and there
is only one cat instead of two because there was no way they could
make a cat small enough to go on her shoulder but if you look at the
photograph of the original piece, you will see a clear resemblance
in the two pieces. Isn't this a charmer? Our price: $209.90. NEW

S. A Pair of Tuxedo
Cats on a Formal Chair Box. These are called Tuxedo's
for obvious reasons. They are working on making them a separate breed
but it hasn't happened yet. Black and whites are my own
most favorites! Did you ever notice how much trouble two cats in the
same household can get into? And the problem is you never know which
one to scold. They seem to incite each other, sometimes to riot! The
picture really speaks for itself. The chair has a needlepoint or tapestry
covering with a lovely French style floral and these two rascals are
going to leave cat hair all over it. A familiar problem to cat lovers.
Inside, a detail from the floral and the clasp is a French bow. Retail:
About $183.00. Our price: $165.90. NEW
Of interest: It
is a scientifically proven fact that bi-color cats have white as
the dominant gene and
the secondary color, no matter
how dominant seeming, is actually just patches of color on a white
cat. When I first read that in my Cat Encyclopedia I thought I had
misunderstood it but I hadn't. It is correct. So black and whites
are really black on whites.
