Our classic boxes and perfume flacons continue as a collection of truly exquisite pieces. Very varied styles, colorings, shapes and sizes give you a broad palette from which to choose. The perfume flacons are all usable. I was recently at the home of a dear friend and in her powder room she had an outstanding collection of classic boxes on the counter top, all in the coloring of the room, in her case deep rose and forest green. She told me that her friends all check the powder room to see what new boxes have been added each time they are at her home.

A. The Lavender Blue, Dilly, Dilly Box. A young girl dressed in a lavender Spencer Jacket with yellow collar and matching muff. On her head a bonnet matching the skirt of her outfit, with violets trimming both the bonnet and the hemline of her skirt. Two tiny booted feet peep out from the skirt. Inside a flower and the clasp, yet another. The frame of this box is beaded, one of the few done in this manner. Retail: About $285.00. Our price: $256.90. NEW and a delight.

B. The Melange of Flowers Box. A simple cylindrical shape made special by a melange of beautiful blossoms clustered on the front and lid of the box. The coloring and highlighting of the flowers make them seem as if they are real. Inside, a flower, hand painted. The clasp, another flower. Rehaussé Main Retail: About $245.00. Our price: $219.90. C. The Colorful Cockatiels Perfume Chest. The ground is done in a lapstrake pattern going from deep wine to light wine to pink to white. (The term lapstrake is commonly used in describing a certain type of boat hull but, in fact, this design strongly resembles the pattern that lapstraking provides.) Around the base, a reserve filled with an exotic plumed bird on a white ground and on the lid two very brilliantly colored Cockatiels in a white reserve. Inside, 4 jewel-topped perfume flacons and the clasp, a handsome flower. Retail: About $305.00. Our price: $274.90. NEW and Most Elegant.

D. A Tisket, A Tasket, The Mauve Basket Box. The body of the box is done in a technique that is bas relief combined with relief painting that provides so much texture that it feels like diamond shaped wicker. There are more than three levels of texture used and it is all patterned after wicker. Really an interesting and quite lovely effect. The lid has a centerpiece of clusters of fruit, the basket handle is braided with a bow on top and the clasp is a bunch of grapes. Unusual and lovely! Retail: About $185.00. Our price: $166.90.

E. The Lady's Fan Box. A tiny fan shaped box ruffled to look like an open fan. Sky blue ground with a pale purple Iris as the focal point of the design, nearby a dragon fly and greens complete the design. Inside a folded fan, and the clasp, a tiny butterfly. F. The Diamond in The Round Box. Actually it is a pinched diamond shape but the word "pinched" albeit descriptive, brings to mind Haig and Haig Pinch Bottle and this is a far cry from that. This box has been painted in a technique which brings real texture to the box. It looks like lace and most of the body of the box is done this way. Running your finger across it you can feel the design as well as see it. An educated guess would be that they have used enamel over the painted background and that is how the relief work was done. The shape of the box is outlined a number of times in gold and there is a reserve on the lid filled with multicolored roses. Inside a flower and the clasp a bow. Retail: About $195.00. ***NOTE: Rehaussé Main means: This box was done by a hand transfer process which is what makes the flowers so exact, and then enhanced by hand, with layers of paint, that make certain of the blossoms come alive. We have not had any of these previously in our catalog but Rochard has done a group that is so handsome we decided to buy a few pieces that we thought were quite lovely. Notice particularly the coloring of the flowers. Shadings that can only be done using this process. Interestingly, only one person does both the transfers and the enhancing of these boxes.
