The History of Fabergé
The Art of Fabergé
Fabergé Catalog
When The Perfect Gift Catalog was created, in 1996, the name Fabergé
had long been associated with extravagantly beautiful bibelots, jeweled
eggs that had been made in the Russia of the Czars by Peter Carl Fabergé
These pieces were all made by hand and all created in the workshops of
the Fabergé company which was then in St.Petersburg, Russia. Because
they were always made to order for specific members of the Russian royal
family with only a very few going to members of the nobility in other
countries, in the time period in which they were made, few Americans ever
saw them or were even aware of them. Several years after the Russian Revolution
a number were sold by the new state, several simply disappeared, and several
were acquired by others who were aware of these exquisite pieces. A total
of 56 eggs were made for the Czars, 12 for Alexander Kelch, the owner
of several gold mines in Siberia, one for the Duchess of Marlborough in
England and one for a Russian Prince. Over the years that followed a few
were acquired by holders of large fortunes in America, others were acquired
by Queen Elizabeth and then in more recent years the late Malcolm Forbes
started his collection which has since become one of the two largest collections
of these irreplaceable works of art.
The present Fabergé
Company came into existence a few years ago and by dint of arrangements
with the Fabergé family was able to secure the rights to make
copies of all of the original pieces in valuable but less costly materials
than
those originally employed. As such, they became affordable to the general
public and because of the visibility of these originals through the generosity
of The Forbes Collection and The Queen Elizabeth Collection and because
of the numerous volumes that have been published detailing these incredible
works of art, the American public now has become familiar with them and
anxious to acquire these reproductions. As a result we started purchasing
these pieces not quite a year ago, found them to be much in demand by
those who were aware of them and the demand has grown leading to our
new
catalog within a catalog called simply "Fabergé." Within
this catalog you will find, as well, copies of The Forbes Collection
pieces
made by Artoria Limoges under license from the Forbes Collection. These
also are exquisitely detailed copies but only of the pieces owned by
The
Forbes Collection.
