Twelve Days of Christmas
Christmas Any Other Time
This year is going to be the best year ever for wonderful true Christmas-y
boxes! There was such an appealing array from which to choose that I am
afraid I went over the top and bought literally dozens. There were several
remarkable Santas, the kind you saw in your dreams when you were a kid.
Sweet faced jolly old men with the bluest eyes below thick white brows,
the reddest cheeks, sumptuous beards gleaming and the toys they carried--
just carried you away. I bought three different Santas and, as it happens,
they are all Lynn Haney Limited Editions. He must have been lurking around
when I was child because his Santas look exactly like my childhood dreams
of Santa or maybe we dreamed similar dreams, which ever--no matter. Take
a look and see if these aren't the same little guy's you dreamed about
as a kid.
Dreamy Santas
A1. The Santa Loaded With Bear Box. Is he gorgeous or what? Sitting
by the fireside in his red velvet chair, awash with Teddies, his Book
of Lists in his hand--he's deciding who gets those little bears--his
kitty and his sleepy pup curled up at his feet. Isn't this the Santa
you knew
as a babe? Inside the box a Teddy, painted, and the clasp yet another
Teddy. Retail: About $351.00. Our price: $297.90.
A2. The Old Saint Nicholas
Box. And doesn't he look just like him? Dressed in a long white
coat with a belled Santa hat, holly boughs decorating both, laden
with
a doll, an elephant, a rocking horse, a kitty cat, a Christmas stocking
and a tiny tree with a gold star topping it. Oops, almost missed
the little
gift box tucked under his arm. Inside some Christmas Holly and the clasp
a Teddy Bear. Retail: About $257.00. Our price: $231.90.

A3. Santa on His Wheels
Box. He got these wheels last year because he wasn't about to
do much flying and he liked this method of delivery so well he is continuing
it. He's dressed in a holly green jump suit under his traditional
red coat. The coat is trimmed with a gold scroll work design as is his
cap. Shiny black, fur trimmed boots and red mittens complete his outfit.
He's hanging on to a huge Teddy Bear and the dressed Christmas Tree
fits right into his bicycle rack. The tree is strung with lights, decorations
and has a gift box in gold hanging from it. (The very top of the tree
is the "box". Look closely and you will see it.) He sits on
a metal Tricycle; removable, and hanging from the handlebar is a decorated
Christmas Wreath, also removable. The "Trike" has wheels that
actually work. (This is the only bicycle box I have ever seen for those
of you who have asked for bicycles.) Retail: About $435.00. Our price:
$391.90. Repeat Performance to wild applause.
B. I opened Santa's
sack and these tumbled out:
B1. The "Little Engine That Could" Box. (A Choo Choo
Train.) It comes complete with engineer, a coal bin piled high, a headlight,
a "cow catcher" and the clasp is it's bell. It is riding
on silver rails and has a huge smoke stack If you look inside you will
see the train just passing a water tower with smoke billowing from it's
stack, painted. Retail: About $177.00. Our price: $159.90. NEW I don't
like to blow our own horn but isn't this a hoot!

B2. The "Jack-in-the-Box"
Box. All little kids just love "Jack-in-the-Box" toys. There
is something about them that is just so appealing. This rather old "little
kid" still loves them. When I saw this one I knew we had to have
him. Is he the cutest thing? That funny little head with eyes wide and
the reddest nose and woolly yellow hair, just wobbling about -- he is
adorable! I remember having one when I was very young, perhaps 2 or 3
years old. I would sit on the floor in my room for hours just opening
and closing the box. Trying to get him locked back in the box was not
easy and I would struggle with it endlessly until someone would come along
and close the box for me. Then, in seconds I would open it again, squeal
delightedly, and the whole process would start all over. I laughed so
when that head popped out of the box. I just loved him. It was a favorite
toy for a long time. Was it for you as well? The box is tiny,1 inch in
diameter and 1 1/2 inches high. The clasp is a hook that closes around
a minute pin. You know what is inside--Jack! Retail: About $132.00. Our
price: $123.90. NEW

B3. The Crystal Christmas
Egg Box. The base of the egg is porcelain and has holly leaves
and berries scattered over it. The top is crystal with cuts of
snow flakes
and inside it is a rocking horse and a gaily wrapped gift box. What's
best about this pretty little "toy" is that when you
shake it, silver angel dust floats around inside the lid making
everything inside
all sparkley. There is a dimensional, removable gift wrapped box inside
and the clasp is a Teddy Bear.Retail: About $191.00. Our price: $171.90.

B4. The Santa Brought
Me Ice Skates for Christmas Box! Who has not wanted Ice Skates as
a Christmas Gift at some point in their young life? Every child sees themselves
gliding effortlessly over the smooth surface of a lake doing all sorts
of spins and twirls--like a professional. Kids have no idea of the years
of practice it takes to develop that kind of skill on skates. Myself,
I look at this box and see a beautiful young woman having her skates laced
by a handsome, dark haired young man, then the two of them skating off,
holding hands, gliding over the ice in perfect unison, dancing to the
music I hear in my head. Crazy? Probably. I think I have watched too many
old movies. Remember Sun Valley Serenade? The open books reveal a winter
evening with snow softening the mountain peaks behind the small village
that lies on the shore of the ice covered lake. Inside, a perfect pine
tree and the clasp, a French bow. Retail: About $225.00. Our price: $202.90.
